Since the end of March we have ramped up our supplying and supporting of local Atlanta food banks and food pantries because youth out of school who rely and depend on school lunches for food, and other vulnerable communities and families dealing with food insecurity, are going through an incredibly difficult time and need our support now more than ever.
Since that same time in the end of March we have also been creating face masks from recycled and remnant fabric from my sustainable fashion line, and American Eagle recently donated to us 500 disposable masks. I will providing these masks along with personal care items to the homeless shelters for women and children we work with in Atlanta. We are also looking to launch an initiative to to give micro-seed grants to young female entrepreneurs who have companies that also give back to their community. Our top 3 focuses are mask and personal care distribution, food insecurity, and supporting small socially driven businesses.
In 2013 Maya launched a project where she designed and created eco-friendly reusable/rewashable sanitary pads for girls in countries in need. Many menstruators that have access to education cannot go to school on their monthly cycle because they have no sanitary pads to wear and taking around 5 days a month out of school can lead to youth dropping out of school. Since the project launch Maya's Ideas 4 The Planet has worked with MedShare and Youth Action Without Borders for pad distribution. Since then, pad kits have been shipped to healthcare facilities in Haiti, Senegal, Cameroon, and Somalia.
